Shawdesh Desk: Five policemen were injured in an attack by locals while they were returning to police station after arresting an accused in a theft case in Kumarkhali area of Pirojpur Sadar upazila early hours of Monday.

Meanwhile, police arrested seven people in this connection so far.

Pirojpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Hayatul Islam Khan confirmed the matter to media and said, “Two of the injured policemen are currently undergoing treatment at hospital and while the rest returned to the barrack after taking primary treatment.”
The SP also said that a process is underway to file a case in this regard.

According to local police sources, the law enforcers conducted a drive at Kumarkhali area and arrested accused Mehedi. When they reached Police Lines Road, some locals attacked them to snatch away the arrestee.

Later, the accused was brought to the local police station.
